Combining it with serotonergic medications can cause \u003cstrong\u003eserotonin syndrome\u003c\/strong\u003e, a potentially life-threatening reaction. The U.S. FDA issued a Drug Safety Communication on this interaction in 2011.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAlso do not use if you:\u003c\/strong\u003e have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency; are pregnant or nursing; have kidney impairment; or are under 18 years of age.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eExpected effect:\u003c\/strong\u003e methylene blue is a deep blue dye and will temporarily tint the mouth, urine and stool blue or green.
